Quitman ISD and Jackson Construction would like to invite the community to the grand opening of the new Ag Facility on Tuesday, March 7th, from 4 - 6 p.m. Please plan to park in the softball field parking lot. The back gate will be closed, so plan to enter from the road that runs beside the high school and along the track.

Quitman ISD lost a valued employed Wednesday, February 22nd, when Mr. Bill Mullican passed away from illness. Mr. Mullican drove buses for Quitman for nine years, and was loved by staff and students alike. "Mr. Bill" will be greatly missed.
Per the Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home website, visitation for Mr. Bill will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 28th, at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations. His funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1st, at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the QISD Bus Barn Employees.

Superintendent Christopher Mason dropped into Ms. Taylor's 2nd grade class this morning to read students a book!
Next week, students will be celebrating Dr. Seuss week, with dress-up day fun. Also coming up soon at the elementary library is Super Hero Day (local super heroes will come read to students), reading with the QHS baseball and softball teams and Star Wars Day!
Be sure to come out to Quitman Elementary and explore "STEM Night" on Monday, February 27th from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. This night is for all students from Pre-K through 5th grade and their families. All attending will be able to explore "hands-on" science and experience engineering challenges and demonstrations. This will be a fun night for the whole family so make plans to attend!
Wednesday was National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. This holiday was established to celebrate the gaps between schools and local police departments. QISD is lucky to have Officers Taylor and Gatewood on staff at our campuses. To celebrate, students made & signed cards and principals on each campus treated them to lunch--and donuts! Thank you for all that you do, Officer Taylor and Officer Gatewood!!
Quitman Independent School District will observe a Staff Development Day on Friday, February 17th. There will be no school for students. QISD will also observe a school holiday on Monday, February 20th. Students will return to classes on Tuesday, February 21st.
The Scholastic Book Fair was at Quitman Elementary School all last week. A parents' night was held which allowed parents and grandparents to shop with their students. Pictures below include older students assisting younger students in picking out books. Funds from the book fair go to expand the library's resources all year long. Librarian CJ Russell said, "I'm so thankful for all the families that came and supported our library! Next year will be even better--we're looking forward to seeing you there!"
Quitman ISD will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. in the QISD Board Room. The purpose of this meeting is to review the 2021-2022 Texas Academic Report.

Due to the threat of inclement weather, QISD will have a late start tomorrow, Tuesday, January 31. Classes will begin at 10:00 AM. Teachers should report to school at 9:30. Buses will begin running 2 hours later. Campus buildings will open for students at 9:15.
Due to the threat of winter weather Quitman ISD will be releasing school at 2:00 pm. Car riders may be picked up at 2:00 pm. Buses will run at 2:00 pm. For safety, elementary students will NOT be released from the bus if a parent or guardian is NOT at home. If a parent or guardian is not at home the students will be returned to the High School Campus and may be picked up in the front office.
All extra curricular activities are cancelled.
Parents and Guardians: We are closely monitoring the weather conditions. We plan to continue school as normal today. Keeping our students safe is our top priority. Quitman ISD is now planning for the Gifted and Talented Education program for the 2023-2024 school year. The G/T program is designed for students with exceptional intellectual and creative thinking abilities. Anyone wishing to nominate a student attending Quitman ISD in kindergarten through eleventh grade is asked to go by the school office and request a copy of the nomination form. This form must be returned to the school by March 23.
There will be a free vaccine clinic available to the public this Friday, January 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library. Flu, Covid-19 and booster shots will be available.
Make plans to head to Delbert Ballard Gymnasium this afternoon to cheer on the Bulldogs as they take on Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill. JV girls will start things off at 4 p.m., with JV boys, Varsity girls and Varsity boys following.

On February 27th, families will be invited to head to QES, grab a passport and explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). This first annual event will offer several stations with engaging activities for the whole family. Some of the special guests in attendance will be from Wood County Electric Cooperative, Northeast Texas Community College, and 4H. More details coming soon!
