Senior Kameran Farnham was awarded a $2500 scholarship from CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances' Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital after submitting a video entry about women's heart health. In her video, Kameran had some fun--boxing with a "heart" (her dad) and explaining different things that women can do to keep their hearts healthy.
Her video was selected as one of the top five by a committee and then put to a public vote. Scholarships were given at $5000, $2500 and $1500. Kameran garnered enough votes to receive the $2500 scholarship.
Kameran was excited to be awarded the scholarship. "This was such an amazing scholarship opportunity because I not only got financial aid assistance, but I also got to advocate for women's heart health," stated Farnham. "Throughout this process I reached out to distant family and friends and got to reconnect with them, and teach them about heart health."
Kameran will be utilizing the scholarship when she attends UT Tyler in the Fall, where she has signed a letter of intent to cheer for the UT Patriots. Ultimately, Farnham wants a job in the medical field. Farnham is grateful for this scholarship and to all who have supported her through school. "I want to thank my family and community for showing me support throughout the journey and voting for me, this wouldn't be possible without y'all."
This is all just a step closer to pursuing my dream of becoming an anesthesiologist.
In addition to family and friends, Assistant Superintendent Dana Hamrick and High School Principal Jeffery Tittle were on hand to celebrate with Kameran yesterday at the awards ceremony.
