PreK-8th grade reading and English teachers from QISD and twelve other area districts participated in the second week of The Writing Academy. The writing process developed by classroom teacher, Randi Whitney, is a part of the district’s initiative to increase all students’ writing abilities. Creating a love for writing, along with improving scores on assessments such as STAAR, ACT/SAT, and AP, and preparing students for college and careers are the goals of this training.
The components of the academy include PreK-2 Parts of Speech, Grammar, and Punctuation and grades 3-8 Editing and Revising Essays. The Writing Academy has created techniques and strategies to assist teachers with the instructional writing process. In addition, the academy creates a common writing process vocabulary across all grade levels.
