Second graders got to participate in a Zoom call with New York Times Bestselling author and illustrator Ryan T. Higgins this morning. Mr. Higgins called the kids all the way from Maine and talked to them about being an author and illustrator. He told them there were four things they needed to do if they wanted a jobs like his. “First, work hard in school, that’s very important,” said Higgins. “Also, read tons and tons of books, because reading makes you smarter,” Higgins continued. He then went on to explain that the last two things they needed to do was to practice writing stories and to practice drawing.
Higgins then taught the kids how to draw one of his popular characters, Penelope T. Rex. He then took questions from the kids. After the call ended, all the kids were given a book featuring Penelope called “We Don’t Eat our Classmates.”
