One of our Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Petty happens to have 14 chickens at home, so she brought one of them named Red to visit her class. 🐔 They are learning all about farms right now, and their current focus is on chickens. They learned about the life cycle of a chicken, what they eat, and why farmers raise them. The students labeled the parts of a chicken on their Smartboard and then compared them to Red in real life.
She even got to roam around the room for a bit, which the kids thought was so neat! This is such a fun, hands-on way to bring the farm unit to life!

Quitman ISD Child Nutrition Department had the honor of hosting the School Nutrition Exchange: Southwest Roundtable, led by Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) at our Admin Office. 🥗🍓🍔😋
We were proud to be recognized for the second time for our work to improve the food we serve at both breakfast and lunch. The event brought together state and regional partners, as well as other school districts, who were also acknowledged for their efforts. 👏
AFHK also filmed our breakfast prep and service, along with staff and student interviews, for a video that will be shared nationwide to highlight the positive work happening in school nutrition right here in Quitman.

NOTICE OF THE QUITMAN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT’S SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE PUBLIC MEETING
Quitman ISD will hold a public meeting at 4:15 p.m., September 8th at the JH/HS Library. The purpose of the meeting is to review and discuss District SHAC.

As a parent, you are the most important voice in your child’s education. Texas law recognizes that students
do best when families are informed, involved, and respected. Parents are partners with educators,
administrators, and school boards of trustees in their children’s education. Parents have specific rights
outlined in the Texas Education Code including Chapter 26: Parental Rights and Responsibilities.

This form provides information about many of the parental rights and options described in the Texas
Education Code, including the right to refuse or remove your child from certain activities and instruction.
It is not a complete description of all parental rights. Parents should review this form along with their
district’s student handbook.

Around 9:50am, QHS went into a "hold" due to a staff medical emergency. As of 10:15am, the "hold" has been lifted, and the staff member is stable and receiving medical care. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
