SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

College is expensive, but there are definitely ways to offset the financial burden and not accrue that dreaded college debt! Your first step is to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or (FAFSA). Then, spend some time perusing the following sites:

Scholarships by Due Date:

September 2024

  • September 15, 2024- The Gates Scholarship - a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households.

  • September 30, 2024 5:00pm ET - Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation $20,000 Scholarship

  • September 30, 2024 - Home Depot "Path to Pro" Scholarship - For individuals of all backgrounds and in any U.S. state who are pursuing training for construction-related fields that do not require a four-year degree (carpentry, construction management, electrical, HVAC, plumbing).

    Recipients are selected quarterly. Applications remain eligible for selection until graduation or completion of your training program.

  • November 14, 2024- Jack Kent Cooke $55,000 per year Scholarship 40 winners will be selected. More information can be found here. The College Scholarship uses Common App.

December 2024

  • December 1, 2024- UT Tyler Merit $2,000 Scholarship All Texas students in the top 25% of their class are automatically eligible. Must be accepted to UT Tyler by Dec 1st.

  • December 1, 2024 - Ted & Holly Rollins Scholarship -$5000 -Awarded to high school seniors based on the most compelling stories -- regarding their life story, their intended field of study, career and how they will make an impact on the world.

  • December 18, 2024, 3:00 PM CT - Equitable Excellence Scholarship® Program - $5000 (renewable)

  • December 19, 2024 -Amazon Future Engineers Scholarship - up to $40,000 - Online application link

  • December 31, 2024 - Home Depot "Path to Pro" Scholarship - For individuals of all backgrounds and in any U.S. state who are pursuing training for construction-related fields that do not require a four-year degree (carpentry, construction management, electrical, HVAC, plumbing).

    Recipients are selected quarterly. Applications remain eligible for selection until graduation or completion of your training program.

  • January 3, 2025 - GE-REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - $10,000 renewable for up to 4 years - Online Application

  • January 15, 20251:59 pm

    Texas Farm Credit for graduating seniors who are involved in FFA or 4-H. They will also award Ag Champs Scholarships in the amount of $1,000. The recipients FFA or 4-H Chapter will also be awarded $1,000.  Marsha Martin Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. One application; Two opportunities. Online application link. Paper application.

  • January 18, 2024 The Coolidge: A Scholarship for America Full ride merit scholarship for Juniors.

  • January 31, 2025 - Trinity Mother Frances Women With Heart - $5000, $2500, $1500 Scholarship Video Contest

  • January 31, 2024- Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarships DAR offers 26 different scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

February 2025

  • February 1, 2024- Big Tex Youth Livestock $6,000 Scholarship Multiple scholarships available for students who competed in competitive youth livestock events at the Texas State Fair.

  • February 2, 2024 - The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation - For students pursuing a degree in agriculture or ag-related field.

  • February 2, 2024 - Various ag related scholarships for students pursuing a degree in agriculture or have family involved in ranching and farming.

  • February 2, 2024 - H-E-B Scholarship for UIL Participants - Online application for seniors who participate in UIL competitions (Music, Athletics, Academics) with a $2,000 scholarship in recognition of their community service and involvement in their communities.

  • February 16, 2024 - Simon Youth Foundation (Simon Malls) - Shari Simon Greenberg Community Scholarships of the Simon Youth Foundation are available to high school seniors living near a Simon mall or in the surrounding communities. Online application

  • March 1, 2025 - Quitman Chapter 695-Order of the Eastern Star Scholarship-may be used for traditional schools, trade schools or certification/work needs.

  • March 5, 2024 Hochheim Prairie Branch 77 Scholarship Four scholarships worth $750 will be awarded.

  • March 15, 2024 - Region 7 Association of Educational Office Professionals -$750 Scholarship, needs-based for students planning on attending a college/university in the Region 7 service area.

  • March 15, 2024 Sullivan Supply's Youth $1,000 Scholarship Applicants do not have to major in Agriculture, but must continue to be involved in the livestock industry.   • March 20, 2024 Wood County Electric Power My World Scholarships Awarding 10-$1,500 scholarships for students attending a junior college or university and awarding 3-$1,000 scholarships for students attending a trade school. Applications must be DELIVERED OR MAILED to Wood County Electric Co-Op by the due date.

  • March 22, 2024 Legacy Ag Credit-Printable Application Online Application Legacy offers 1-$5,000 scholarship and 6-$2,500 scholarships. There is no degree requirement, but preference will be given to applicants pursuing agriculture degrees.

  • March 27, 2024 Peoples Education Scholarship Fund Peoples offers up to 20 scholarships ranging from $1,000 – $2,000 to seniors whose parents subscribe to Peoples telecommunications services. Must be MAILED or DELIVERED to Peoples.

  • March 31, at 11:59 pm - Linda Thomas Safe Driving Scholarship to award ten eligible students $1,000 each for college expenses. The winners will be selected based on essays and academic and extracurricular achievements. Online applications and essay submission portal.

  • April 1, 2024 - Kailee Mills Foundation Scholarship Program is to educate teen drivers about seat belt safety through seat belt awareness, research, volunteerism, and leadership. Scholarship recipients deliver high levels of academic achievement, ambition, leadership, and a desire to make a difference. Up to $20,000- Online application.

  • April 1, 2024 - $1000 Peace Officers Memorial Foundation Scholarship - The program was instituted for funding higher education for Texas peace officers’ dependents.

  • April 1, 2024 John & Rheba Myers Scholarship of Communities Foundation of Texas Scholarship for FULL AMOUNT of TUITION and FEES for an academic year, with the ability to renew for a total of four years. For any student going to a 2-year or 4-year academic institution.

  • April 1, 2024 Northeast Texas County & District Clerks' Region VI $1,000 Scholarship Two scholarships will be awarded, and students attending a trade school, community college, or university can apply. Applications must be mailed.

  • April 1, 2024 - All-Pro Septic Education Empowerment Scholarship - $1000 - designed to empower and encourage graduating Quitman High School seniors as they embark on the next chapter of their educational journey. Institutional Sponsored:

  • U.S. Air Force ROTC Offers scholarships for students wanting to enter college or a university right out of high school and participate in that school's Air Force ROTC program. After completion the student has the opportunity to accept a position as an Air Force Officer.

  • U.S. Navy ROTC Scholarship Program Offers scholarships for students wanting to enter college or a university right out of high school and participate in the U.S. Navy ROTC.

  • U.S. Marines Offers scholarships or students wanting to enter college or university right after high school and for active duty members.

  • If you are planning on applying to Tyler Junior College, their scholarship application is now available. TJC is also known for the prestigious Presidential Honors Program which gives you a competitive edge upon graduation.

  • Northeast Texas Community College is just up the road and is another affordable alternative if you're looking to commute. Check out their Financial Aid and Scholarships page here.

  • Texas A&M Commerce is a good fit for many of our students, and is located a little over an hour from Quitman. Find out more.

  • Stephen F. Austin State University is located 2 hours away and has one of the most beautiful campuses in the state! Check out their scholarship page here.

  • Smith-Hutson Scholarship (SFA University) - Will award approximately 20 scholarships valued at $70,000 ($17,500 per year). Please click here to apply. Deadline is February 28, 2018.

  • Information for scholarships for Texas State University, located in San Marcos, is available on their Scholarship site.

  • If you are looking to stay close to home, an often overlooked 4 year university, Texas College, located in North Tyler, is an NAIA private school which may be an affordable option.

  • Many of our students opt for the scholarship opportunities afforded at Texas A&M University. The TAMU University System has a network of 11 universities throughout the state.

  • The University of Texas at Austin's Texas Exes organization has scholarships available.

  • For information on costs and scholarships for East Texas Baptist University, see this link. ETBU is located approximately an hour east of Quitman and we've had several QHS alumni as graduates.

  • LeTourneau University, located in Longview, is surprisingly affordable and comparable to public schools with NEW scholarship opportunities. Check out their scholarship and financial aid opportunities.

  • Baylor University offers the Carr P. Collins Scholars Program. Collins Scholars are awarded a minimum of $5,200 their freshman year, renewable for three additional years. Deadline to apply is January 31st.

  • UT Tyler offers the Reach Higher Scholarship for first time freshman with a family income up to $80,000 a year and complete the FAFSA may qualify for this program. The scholarship covers all tuition and mandatory fees.

  • UT Tyler offers academic scholarships for Incoming Freshman. They offer other scholars for talent, alumni, future teachers, etc. Find more on their scholarship webpage.

  • University of Houston Cougar Promise - Free tuition to low-income families (students) who meet the income requirements.

Trade and Technical Schools:

If a traditional college or JuCo is not for you, think about trying a Vocational or Trade School. Begin by checking out this site, which lists the top ranked Vocational & Trade Institutions in Texas. These afford many opportunities - both cost and time-wise.
